PSARC Doings; June, 2010
Twenty-two members of the Pine State Amateur Radio Club (PSARC) and one guest attended the club’s monthly meeting on June 7th at the Bangor Daily News lunchroom. Participants discussed upcoming events and news, and volunteers signed up for the Forth of July Parade.
Election of officers for 2010 through this date in 2011: President will be Roger Dole, KA1TKS; Vice President, Ken Lewis WB1EMA; Sec/Treas, Carroll Spencer, N1OJD; Three-year Directors; Cy Currier, K1TES, Ryan Stankevitz, KB1UAS.
The Memorial Day Parade went smoothly, but the usual problem of juggling units into place in the cramped Exchange Street setup site was very noticeable.
Hamfest: The Hamfest at Hermon High School was attended by 153 people in spite of the rain (Roger, I thought you were in charge of the weather!). The band seemed like a good idea. It was suggested that next year we might have some campers there as there used to be at St. Albans. Also suggested was a White Board to put up winning numbers in raffle drawings. Thirty people attended the D-Star Class. Four candidates tested resulting in two new hams and one upgrade. Thanks to Ann Prewitt, N1AAP, for handling food preparation.
A Fox Hunt was scheduled for June 20.
The annual Field Day will be the last full weekend in June as always. This year that is June 26-27. It will be at Hermon High School. The Field Day Committee is Bill, K1AG, Jerry, K1GUP, John, WA4SWM, and Jeff, W7WWS. Individuals in charge of specifics are: Food, Roger, KA1TKS; Batteries, Cy, K1TES; Tower, Ryan, KB1UAS; Radio/Equipment, Bill, K1AG; Press, Rich, KB2YDH; Shelter, John, WA4SWM; Antenna, Jerry, K1GUP.
Fourth of July parade: Volunteers are Roger, KA1TKS. Pete, AI1O, Donny, WA1AKV, Tom, N1OJH, Glenn, N1LX, Jeff, W7WWA, and Bob KC1AU.
St Albans Hamfest will be on the 14th of August, 2010. A few VEs have volunteered. More are needed. Contact Don, KD1XU if you can help. This is the last hamfest at St. Albans. In 2011 the hamfest will be moved to Milo.
Classes will start in September. Contact Cy, K1TES or Don, KD1XU if you are interested.
From last month (oops, forgot): It would be good to see more members working the HF bands, for contesting and general interest. Some of the new members are having a good time doing so. It is great fun talking to people all over the world. Remember, the bands are improving as the sunspot cycle progresses.
The next PSARC meeting will be held July 12 at 7 PM in the Bangor Daily News lunchroom.
PSARC Doings; April 2010
Twenty-three members of the Pine State Amateur Radio Club (PSARC) and three guests attended the club’s monthly meeting on April 5 at the Bangor Daily News lunchroom. Participants discussed upcoming events and news and heard Ed Paradis, WI1Z, discuss computers and amateur radio.
It was reported that the PSARC-sponsored test session of April 3 served eleven candidates, of whom six gained new licenses or upgrades. The next PSARC test session will be at the hamfest at Hermon High School, 9 AM, June 5. Contact Don Tarbet, KD1XU, in advance if you want to earn the PSARC code certificate.
Volunteers were sought for the Kenduskeag Stream Race on April 17 and the MS walk on April 24. PSARC has provided communications for these events for years. Volunteers are still needed for the Memorial Day Parade on May 31. Contact Roger Dole, KA1TKS, if you are able to help out.
Attendees were reminded that the Bangor Hamfest would be Saturday, June 5, 2010, at Hermon HS with a hamfest breakfast at Chase’s Family Restaurant on outer Hammond St. beginning at 5:30 AM. See http://n1me.org/ for details on the hamfest.
Licensing classes will be held in September of 2010.
The deadline for submitting items for the club newsletter to Steve Jordan, KD1OM, is May 8, 2010.
The annual Field Day will be the last full weekend in June as always. This year that is June 25-26. It will be at Hermon High School.
The next PSARC meeting will be held May 3 at 7 PM in the Bangor Daily News lunchroom. Gary Jordon, KB1ION, will be the speaker for the evening. He will discuss building a repeater and how to set up a computer for Echo-link.
