Twenty-three members of the Pine State Amateur Radio Club (PSARC) and two guests attended the club’s monthly meeting on July 12th at the Bangor Daily News lunchroom. Participants discussed past and future events and news. Roger, KA1TKS called the meeting to order at 7:06 PM.
Minutes thanks to Carroll, N1OJD
Field Day: 45 people attended this national event June 26-27 at Hermon High School. Four hundred phone and 253 CW contacts were made. A lot of willing hands helped with set up and take down.
Fourth of July Parade: It was a warm day and the parade went together well. A large crowd turned out along the route.
Our Storage Trailer needs a lot of work done on it. Stairs need to be fixed, unit needs to be thoroughly cleaned, and grass around it needs to be mowed. There is a bad smell, and if the cleaning doesn’t clear that up, something else – perhaps an air vent needs to be considered.
Communications Trailer: The communications trailer also needs work. The inside needs a cleaning and the ceiling needs fixing due to a leak.
The St. Albans Hamfest will be held on August 14 at the Snow Devils Snowmobile Club in St. Albans. Any VEs able to help out please contact Don, KD1XU.
The August Potluck Picnic will be the 21st of August at the E. Eddington Church from 4 to 7 PM.
35th Anniversary Dinner and Historical Remembrance is on October 9th, 2010 at the Welman Commons. The cost of the hall is $175.00 and Steve Stagecoach will cater the meal. If anyone has old pictures or stories about the club, Bill, K1AG is putting together the history of the club; he would like any information that you may have.
Classes will start in September. Contact Cy, K1TES or Don, KD1XU if you are interested.
Zeke, N1KVJ is still at EMMC, Room 394, would like to have some visitors.
We will try to get the 440 Repeater on the mountain and working.
The next PSARC meeting will be held August 2nd at 7 PM in the Bangor Daily News lunchroom.
PSARC Doings; June, 2010
Twenty-two members of the Pine State Amateur Radio Club (PSARC) and one guest attended the club’s monthly meeting on June 7th at the Bangor Daily News lunchroom. Participants discussed upcoming events and news, and volunteers signed up for the Forth of July Parade.
Election of officers for 2010 through this date in 2011: President will be Roger Dole, KA1TKS; Vice President, Ken Lewis WB1EMA; Sec/Treas, Carroll Spencer, N1OJD; Three-year Directors; Cy Currier, K1TES, Ryan Stankevitz, KB1UAS.
The Memorial Day Parade went smoothly, but the usual problem of juggling units into place in the cramped Exchange Street setup site was very noticeable.
Hamfest: The Hamfest at Hermon High School was attended by 153 people in spite of the rain (Roger, I thought you were in charge of the weather!). The band seemed like a good idea. It was suggested that next year we might have some campers there as there used to be at St. Albans. Also suggested was a White Board to put up winning numbers in raffle drawings. Thirty people attended the D-Star Class. Four candidates tested resulting in two new hams and one upgrade. Thanks to Ann Prewitt, N1AAP, for handling food preparation.
A Fox Hunt was scheduled for June 20.
The annual Field Day will be the last full weekend in June as always. This year that is June 26-27. It will be at Hermon High School. St Albans Hamfest will be on the 14th of August, 2010. A few VEs have volunteered. More are needed. Contact Don, KD1XU if you can help. This is the last hamfest at St. Albans. In 2011 the hamfest will be moved to Milo.
Classes will start in September. Contact Cy, K1TES or Don, KD1XU if you are interested.
From last month (oops, forgot): It would be good to see more members working the HF bands, for contesting and general interest. Some of the new members are having a good time doing so. It is great fun talking to people all over the world. Remember, the bands are improving as the sunspot cycle progresses.
The next PSARC meeting will be held July 12 at 7 PM in the Bangor Daily News lunchroom.

Volunteers were sought for the Kenduskeag Stream Race on April 17 and the MS walk on April 24. PSARC has provided communications for these events for years. Volunteers are still needed for the Memorial Day Parade on May 31. Contact Roger Dole, KA1TKS, if you are able to help out.
