5 Volunteer Examiners and 8 Participants were at the August 12th session of the Pine State Amateur Radio CLub's testing session at the Machias Savings Bank in Brewer, Maine. We had 4 with no previous license and 4 going for upgrades.

We had one with no change and the others are listed in the grid below

You may notice how Mr. Plumb is 'Golden'? That is because he had no license when he walked in but came out an Amateur Extra. For those not holding licenses yet and are looking around this site, let me explain.

Now there are only 3 classes of Amateur Radio Licenses the FCC still issues:

  • TECHNICIAN (called Element 2 -- 35 Question Test) - Entry Level License
  • GENERAL (Called Element 3 -- 35 Question Test) - Where most of the fun is and what most have for a goal
  • AMATEUR EXTRA (Called Element 4 -- 50 Question Test) - Highest Level Amateur Radio License issued now

So, what Mr. Plumb did was took the entry level Techician test, and passed it. We then allow you to try the next test while you are there. He did take the General test, and passed that, too. We then allow to try the Extra test. He did that too, and PASSED!

So Mr. Plumb went from no license in Amateur Radio to top level license in about an hour and a half. This is no small feat either, as the question pools have 426 for Technician, 462 for General and 712 for Amateur Extra questions to be pulled out for each exam.

Congratulations Mr. Plumb

and to all of our participants whether NEW or Upgrades.
